The *Insert Any Occasion Here* Salad

I whipped this one out for the family last Christmas, it is originally called Green Bean & Grape Salad by Nouvelle Daily, the same online magazine site I got the original recipe from. Of course I made a few little twists here and there by adding a few more greens in the mix, skipping the chia seeds and cheating a little bit by topping it all off with bacon crisps. It's the holidays after all, we can get away with a little cheating on the otherwise healthy-ish salad, ha. The addition of grapes to the mix made the difference for me, it's sweetness mixed with the saltiness of bacon makes the perfect contrast for a very tasteful mix. Also, instead of having the usual salad dips and dressing, this came with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and when tossed to perfection just gives you the yummiest salad that can be used in any occasion for the family or friends coming over. And did I say it was the easiest to whip up? Well, trust me, it actually is. Because if I can make, just about anybody else can. And with the New Years' just around corner, this can be part of your NYE menu too, let me know if you do!

What My Lips Will Be Wearing For Christmas

When I think of Christmas, I think all things bright and beautiful.  And nothing screams bright and beautiful more than a good ol' red lipstick. It's the time of the year when all the lipstick girls crack in their Ruby Woo's and it will always be valid. It's typically normal to be wearing a matte, bright lip in broad daylight on a daily basis for me, what more on Christmas time right? But I have yet to own the much coveted MAC shade of the season so I thought I'd throw in something similar instead. This is Avon Ultra Matte Color in Matte Merlot. A red with a cool undertone to it that it's good enough to stand on its own - as in with bare lid, minimal to none blush and just a bit of contour for definition and it will just be as festive. However since it's the holidays, I went for the kill and took it up a notch by pairing it with a classic cat eye. I figure it's Christmas, we can make bold lip and bold liner happen. With a red lip comes great responsibility since it's easier to spot you in a crowd. So why not make the most of the situation by wearing a smile to go along with it! Giving lots of laughs has never been more appropriate. And wearing a classic red lip whilst on it? Nothing's ever been more bright and/or beautiful. It's almost time. Have yourself a very merry and reddy little Christmas!

The Festive Nails That Glitters.

If you can't wear all of the glitters on Christmas, when can you? So I'm bringing them all in this season - on my tips, in my lids, name it, I've put glitters on it. I figured it's one way to instafestive the mood of your look. This Collection Work The Colour in Bare Nude is the nail polish that I've raved about in my Blogmas post and in my Instagram as well. It lasted for 10 days before it started chipping even with heavy household chores thrown in the way! Totally unexpected as I've bought it just for kicks but then it ended up blowing my mind. The formula of this is actually very solid that you can get an opaque finish in one coat and guaranteed to dry quickly too. Now you can have the add on glitters your way but I personally used a sheer polish with added holographic flakes on it to get the finish of an iridescent sparkle effect. I know you're probably thinking why go nude on Christmas when everybody's wearing the reds and the dark plums? But I actually love how this whole nude, flakey and sparkly tips have come together for a festive nail that glitters. Christmas Day and NYE nails, sorted.

TGTC Blogmas Week #3

Chapter 12 of 12, how did we get here? And to somehow celebrate and wrap up this last chapter we're all having, I came up with what hopefully could be a TGTC tradition from here on - Blogmas Week #3! (Here's Blogmas Week #1 & Blogmas Week #2) A compilation of my little December things that I started posting out on
and then I thought why not round it up here at the end of each week till Christmas day! So how about we start counting down the days together now? On the fifteenth day of Christmas...

15/25. Crack open your purchases from the crazy sale on going out there - best time to get your make up fix, if I do say so myself. And so far, I'm playing favourites with these three. Heart eye emojis please.

16/25. End up with an accidental nail art because if I'm not painting faces, I'm painting walls and whatnots.

17/25. Fall in love, again. With a scruffie boie in a tie. This is Seth by the way, the newest member of the family.

18/25Eat chocolates for breakfast because why not. It's almost Christmas after all.

19/25Celebrate the original adorkable nerd, The O.C. Seth Cohen's Christmukkah with his namesake's unique way of remembering. Don't worry guys, his neck's fine. That is just how he rolls, literally.

20/25. Get yourself ready for a non-existent Christmas party. Can we just pretend I actually have a Christmas Party to go to tonight? This is how I get a blog post done, I literally have to be in the zone.

21/25. Your wish is your command because you can only get what you wish AND work hard for. I've always wanted to have white walls because London flat state of mind, don't ask. But I knew I won't get it by just making a wish so I finally woman up and got some actual work done. True in white walls, true in life. Say hello to my new favorite backdrop!

TGTC: A Christmas Party Get Ready With Me

Welcome to my very first Get Ready With Me post. I have all of the jitters. Maybe because it's the one type of post, in a blog or a video, that I really enjoy reading/watching. Having your take on something like that kind of make you feel a bit excited and nervous because the pressure is actually within you. But, it's here and I've picked the most wonderful time of the year for it.

The Make Up. Since it's happening at night time, I've decided to go for a bold and beyond lip with a subtle smokey eye look. I used my trusted L'Oreal Le Teint True Match Foundation for the base and the Naked Flushed Palette in Strip for that flushed, glowy cheeks effect. I picked up the Bourjois Paris Smokey Eyeshadow Trio and Twist Up The Volume Mascara to get the subtle smokey eye and dramatic lashes going for me. And of course, there can only be one bold and beyond lip for me, the one that won't budge even after eating and drinking and will keep me away from thinking about my lipstick while I eat the night away, the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Pink Pong.

The Hair. To compliment the subtle smokey eye, I went for the romantic soft curls. If I had the second day hair, I would've skipped the blow drying part as I prefer letting it dry on its own. Using a heated curling rod, I pick and twist up the ends with a curl, hold it there for 5 seconds then let it loose. Prior to any of the heating process, I quickly applied a bit of the L'Oreal Mythic Oil to the tips and then massaged whatever that is left on my fingers to the rest of my hair.

The Outfit. I swear, I would wear colors again one day but surprise, surprise I wore black to the party. Soz. With the subtle smokey eyes and soft romantic curls, I thought I'd kick it off with a classic LBD too. The length is perfect for a party wherein a little dancing can go down later into the night as it cuts right above the knee. The flowy material is very twirl friendly, if I do say so myself. Swish, swish. Paired gray pumps from, a sparkly little flap bag and lots of cheery Christmas spirit in my pocket, off to the party I go... Hohoho!

My Current 3 Minute Face.

A 3 minute face, is that even womanly possible? Well... I think I pretty much can work with this now that the colder months are here. My skin is pretty much a-ok (by my standards) during these times as there's no stress of humidity and break outs so I make the most out of the season to go almost make up free to let my skin breathe a little not just on the daily but even when I go out and about. I thought I'd give a round up of my current make up routine that takes about three minutes... fingers crossed.

I was never a fan of a heavy base so when I found out about Revlon Nearly Naked being almost like a second thin layer of flawless, dewy skin, I was rather very impressed. It's light to medium coverage, true to its nearly naked name and it surprisingly covers everything even the dark circles under my eyes that there's no need for me to use concealer at all. Now that we have about two and a half minute left for the rest of the face, I'd like to do the eyes and brows next. I used the Sansan Eyeliner Pencil in 03 which is quite easy to work with since it's waxy in consistency and very pigmented, you can get that shape and fill easily. And then apply loads and loads of Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara. Just look at those lashes and it almost looks like I have got a liner on, I don't! It's just multiple coats of The Falsies. And then for the finale, I pick up my lipstick of choice depending on the occasion or my mood for the day. This is Kate Moss for Rimmel in 107 which is one of my favorite reds to wear. The formula of this is very easy to apply, no need for a lip liner or lip brush and it's got a matte finish with just a hint of moisture to it so it's not drying at all. Apply it directly from the tube and then pat it on with your finger for a stained, not too full on finish and that's basically my everyday face done in 3 minutes tops. Phew, it is womanly possible after all!

TGTC Blogmas Week #2

Chapter 12 of 12, how did we get here? And to somehow celebrate and wrap up this last chapter we're all having, I came up with what hopefully could be a TGTC tradition from here on - Blogmas Week #2! (You can find Blogmas Week #1 here!) A compilation of my little December things that I started posting out on
and then I thought why not round it up here at the end of each week till Christmas day! So how about we start counting down the days together now? On the eighth day of Christmas...

8/25. Embrace the end of the season that was. Fall be gone, winter is coming. Brrr. It's getting cold in here...

9/25. Put on a Christmas Party Make Up Look with full on glitters and highlights and upper lip stains, ooopsies.

10/25. Meet up with your oldest friends in the planet over coffee and then some because that's what holidays are all about. People always leave, that's what Peyton said, but the real ones who don't are the onesw you keep closer and the ones you will miss an episode of Forevermore for. HA!

11/25Recycle happy memories. Of those times you actually did chase fireworks for a living and never missed a Paskuhan festivity even if it means having to watch the fireworks display from afar because you were stuck in traffic and you can't make it on time. This year though, you just can't make it. Just can't.

12/25. Do a Round 2 of meet up with your oldest friends in the planet over lunch and coffee because, two things: just over lunch isn't enough, we talked for 6 solid hours; and there is nothing quite like it - feels like home always.

13/25. Make a big deal out of the whole 12.13.14 thing and immortalize the day with a selfie, duh.

14/25. Spend an entire afternoon in your church singing one of the oldest holiday cheers and carols, "Pinakadakilang Handog", in preparation for Christmas Day with the people you've known since your 1+1 days. Oh Sundays...

How To Get Away With Brown Lips

Chocolate lips are anything but self-serving that 9 times out of 10, people will call you out on it. My kid cousin thought I was a month too late for the Halloween when he saw me wearing them out one fine Sunday. My little brother thought I just finished eating a certain Filipino dish which brings about a dark colored lip as an aftermath. Boys, eh. However, girls especially those of us who just can't get enough lipstick tubes and shades can reach to a common understanding and logical thinking that chocolate lips are socially acceptable, at least by our standards. I've gathered a few tips on how I think a girl can get away with it...

Pick a dewy, flawless base. The main thing about this look is to keep the focus on the lips while everything else remain flawless and very minimal to none. I prefer using a dewy base with a light to medium coverage as it compliments the whole highlight and contour combination more than a matte finish. It's like hey there, I'm bringing in all the glow today.

Turn the highlights on. Just might be my favorite bit ever. The more highlights on, the better. I used a cream highlighter here which is more practical to apply on the highest points of your face and easier to blend out with your fingers after. When either the natural light or the flash of the camera catches them, it makes you look so fresh and perky with your skin glowing and all.

Warm up the cheeks. You can't do the highlights without the contours right after, they just go well together especially for this look. Skip the blush, just pick a matte bronzer of your choice. Nothing too fancy or drastic, just lightly brush it to the hollows of your cheeks, temples and chin to give that warm flush and dimension to a rather flat canvass.

Barely there eyes. You don't want a heavy face to go with a rather heavy, bold lip. You just want something to compliment it with warm eyes and cheeks to go. I picked up a cream gold eye shadow for this and swipe it all over the lids and just blend out the harsh edges with my finger. Subtly fill in your brows just to emphasize the shape and apply loads of your favorite mascara to make your eyes pop open.

Line those lips. When you go bold, you can't go back. And just to make sure there's no going back, it's better to do the lip liner trick for two things. It intensifies the color more and helps in making it last longer on your lips. And oh you know, it helps in making them look fuller, ala Kylie Jenner. And you know it girl, you want some of that too once in a while.

The Five Under Five List.

I'm telling you, it's almost impossible to leave the counters empty-handed these days, what with the mad sales going on left and right plus the idea of shopping minus that ever so familiar guilt feeling. However, it also can get a little bit overwhelming when you are actually on the counter that you suddenly feel the need to purchase everything, if not all of the items on sale when in reality you don't. So I came up with a streamlined list of what I think is worth picking up from the good ole drugstore make up isles and won't hurt your budget as well. Five things that are all under five hundred bucks, nothing more, nothing less.

Maybelline The Falsies Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara | Php 449. A girl needs a trusty, waterproof mascara in her life and this is one of the cult favorites which means it will not in any way disappoint and she will definitely love this!

Avon Eyeshadow Duet | Php 299. For the girl on the go who lives a fast-paced life but wouldn't be caught without a poppin' eye of a shadow, this Avon innovation will definitely be something she could use for her everyday look to cut the usual 5 minute look to a 3 minute one.

Maybelline Colorshow Intense Fashionable Lipcolor | Php 165. Whether she's a bold lip or a nude lip kind of girl, she'll love the idea of getting a new lipstick tube to use for the coming holidays because a girl can never ever have enough lipstick in her life, trust me.

Collection Work The Color Nail Polish | Php 109. A new bottle of nail polish is always a welcome idea. A good one though is quite hard to find but this one from Collection is but impressive - easy to apply, good color range and claims to last for 10 days! Now girl, wouldn't you love that!

Savvy Chic Nail & Salon Spa Gifts | Php 140-450. Who doesn't love a good pamper? And on holidays? Aaaah! That is what dreams are made of! Head over to Savvy Chic for a well-deserved spa o'clock with family and friends! I've linked their Facebook page in here so you can check out their gifts as well. Hurry, the gifts will be 'round till Friday, December 19. Hohoho!

When Things Get A Little Plummy...

New month, new lipstick. If this season can come in lipstick tubes, it will be composed of dark plums and deep berries. And since I personally find myself reaching out for them most during the cold months as well, it's when I realized I don't have enough plums, if not none at all. And that is why being such the girl that I am, I chose to welcome the new month of December with a new lipstick and I picked up the Maybelline Colorshow Intense Lipstick Collection in Plum Perfect.

It is an everyday kind of plum that is not off-putting and ridiculously easy to apply. The formula is subtly pigmented, the finish is between satiny to creamy and it's actually very moisturizing on the lips. I've worn it out and about in the outdoors and posted a photo of it on my Instagram if you want to see how it looks on the go. The only one thing holding me off is that it's nowhere near long lasting which is such a shame but really for Php165 each tube, you can't really complain as I think it's actually an absolute bargain for its price! You can always reapply though and with its amazing scent, you won't really mind, I know I don't. If you're looking for something to add in your personal collection especially if you are the type who wants to change up your lip color according to the season, have a look at this collection because it has an awesome range too. Plum Perfect, living up to its name, is my perfect pick for this season. 'Tis the season to be jolly and plummy after all!

TGTC Blogmas Week #1

Chapter 12 of 12, how did we get here? And to somehow celebrate and wrap up this last chapter we're all having, I came up with what hopefully could be a TGTC tradition from here on - Blogmas Week #1! I was thinking what could I possibly come up with that somehow follows the whole concept of vlogmas but in type form (hence the term blogmas) just to inject some festive feels and happy things 'round here. A compilation of my little December things that I started posting out on Facebook and then I thought why not round it up here at the end of each week till Christmas day! So how about we start counting down the days together now? On the first day of Christmas...

1/25. Eat Christmas cupcakes. It's well worth all the calories and it doesn't hurt that it basically looks like Christmas all over too!

2/25. Have a dreamy breakfast of your favorite cheesecake with a cuppa Joe on the side because nothing sets the mood like a good ole breakfast, how much more if it's the sweet kind?

3/25. Take a selfie with a sixfooterish ishkruffie* who's effortlessly thrown your way. (*sixfooterish ishkruffie, n. a TGTC slang that means a guy past 6' tall with facial hair or stubble.)

4/25. Start choosing which is which will be your Christmas lips. You know, priorities.

5/25Put up fairy lights to bring about some, if not lots of festive feels.

6/25. Munch on Christmas doughnuts. I kindly object though, should be 'joys go around' for a very obvious reason.

7/25. Fall in love. With a puppy who'd got the bluest of blue eyes and who'd eventually be the newest member of the family. Wee!

The Untold Story Of A Face Mask.

It was a rainy late afternoon, I had the latest episode of The Flash on and I was leisurely lounging on the couch recovering from turning our room upside down the other day when it hit me - perfect pamper time opportunity to finally peel off all the oil and excess dirt on my face. It's time to whip it off and turn my face mask on.

I have to be honest, I am not the one to grab a face mask as part of a my usual random trip to the makeup counters. It just doesn't strike me as something I would be bothered to pick up as opposed to other skincare products. So when a friend of my mine gave me one as a pasalubong from her recent Korea trip, I was more than eager to finally own one and give it a whirl the soonest time possible. This one is called The Face Shop Real Nature Mask Rice, a brightening and complexion improvement sheet containing rice extract to smoothen and brighten dull and rough skin. One thing about this face mask is that it does exactly what it is on the packaging and you can see the results almost immediately. It's surprisingly one of those that deliver instant effects as soon as you're done with it and peel the sheet off your face. It may have really been the rice extracts that helped in smoothing the skin, making it look like a poreless piece of porcelain even just for a few moments post facial mask, combined with Vitamin C which obviously helped in the brightening department. A perked up skin in 15 minutes top? I'd never say no to that especially after looking incredibly hilarious even to myself because the sheet doesn't fit my face shape at all. I had a good laugh upon seeing my reflection in the mirror which may or may not be of help because, facial exercises are vital too you know.

The Weekend Getaway Outfit.

December isn't just around the corner, it's right outside our doorstep, with its breeze the first to greet us "Good Morning" as soon as we woke up. Which can only mean one thing, sweater weather is here -or at least that's what we were used to, let alone hope for. The warm fuzzies stored in the insides of our closet can now come up to play. Which is why this GAP wool pullover is the perfect companion to a quick getaway to some place colder with my girlfriends over the weekend. I also think since it's finally colder, it's rather more acceptable to wear none to minimal color these days to compliment the weather, which ironically is what I have been telling myself all year long, not just the coming month, because I haven't been really wearing colour anyway.

Two things I love about this wool number? One, the neckline is a cute little detail which helped in emphasizing my lone accessory which is this dainty gold necklace I have been really loving at the moment. It is subtle as much as it adds a little sum'n sum'n and it is also something borrowed from my littler sister. Two, just look at how it hangs perfectly on my shoulders and stretches midway thru my hands that I can just literally pull them over and voila, temporary mittens. Throw in some basics in black and white and The NBHD's Sweater Weather in the background and you've got everything covered - quite literally too - for the cold.

An Ode To A Liquid Lipstick I Love.

I've already made quite an introduction about this on my post a few days back and since then I've been itching to do a full-on blog post on this because that's what we girls do - when you love something bad enough, you cannot wait to tell the whole world about it. True in love, true with lipstick.

What with the make up game ever changing and innovations left and right are fast arising, Bourjois Paris may have taken the liquid lipstick path a bit later than the rest but the wait was well worth it! It's as if they made sure they're going to ace it when they do and that they did! Rouge Edition Velvet Collection is what I would like to call liquid lipstick perfection housed in a cubed glass tube with a twist cap opening to reveal a doe foot applicator inside. It's as practical as a packaging can get, the color that you see on the outside is the shade of the actual lipstick you get and the doe foot applicator makes it the easiest to apply on the lips. They come in a liquid formula that glides on and magically dries on your lip as a matte formula with the most gorgeous shade range you can choose from. I got Pink Pong which is basically a hot pink beaut that screams "pretty with a punch". Two layers of this and you've got yourself an opaque and velvety finish that will last you all day - seriously long lasting! Once it dries up, it won't budge, won't transfer, won't dry and won't bleed on you. Are you convince of my liquid lipstick perfection claim yet? Although I have to add, if you're slightly scent sensitive, this has got a faint paint puff on which is highly tolerable and will be a goner before you even know it.

A matte lipstick minus all the nightmares that usually comes with such is finally a possibility, who would have thought? Suffice to say a repurchase of another shade, if not all of them six left, is going to happen. I already have my eyes on Nude-ist next which is basically an everyday lip color that screams "I woke up like 'dis" - at least on the lips department and I'm not going to lie, I could use some of that in my life.

November 12, 2014

I was out of town over the weekend and I managed to squeeze in some haulin' whilst I'm there and I thought I'd share them with you. Some unlikely purchases from a rather unlikely location. You'll see what I mean in a few...

Tres Chic. Yes. That's a trench coat, I bought a full-length trench coat. What was I thinking? Well, there's only one answer to that, or maybe two. I was thinking of London and Law of Attraction in a clothing form this time around. I got the weirdest stare from the sellers because I was all kilig when I tried it on as I was blurting out but it's all worth it! I haven't got the money for a Burberry one, heck not even the Topshop one, so when he told me they're selling it for Php 100, it was a done deal!

Three Musketeers. Meet Barry, Gordon and Oliver also known as the new boys in my life which happens to be cacti in pots. Am I a crazy lady for having a name for everything? I used to call my Blackberry Brody and then before that, my G900 Genie. Anyway, I came across these and I knew I had to get me some. They're pretty, dangerous and low-key slash low maintenance. And they always spice up an Instagram post. Really, that's actually one of the main reasons I got them, aside from getting all three for just Php 150, they're very Instagramable!

Bling On The Breeze. Decembreeze is just around the corner. I mean it's not on full-blown mode yet but it's there. So the warm fuzzies and knits will definitely come in handy in the coming days and this cozy pullover from the thrift market cost me Php 25 and a lifetime of snugglish warmth. It is so fuzzy yet lightweight, so you can go on and on with the layers when it gets colder plus it comes with a flattering neckline too. Perfect to pair with statement necklaces like this one from H&M or your favorite scarf of the season!

See? I told you. Highly unlikely loot but they all made me very, very happy and they're such a steal too. My purse has never been happier instead of lighter. Seriously, it's a win-win situation here, you reckon?

The Make Up Bag : Travel Edition

For a Virgo, I can give the horoscope masters a run for their money because when it comes to being organized, I am the least likely Virgo ever. That if there will be a line of Virgos according to her organizational skills from 'round the globe, I will definitely be the last person in that line. So me coming up with a "travel make up bag" post is kind of a milestone because it means I planned ahead of time, wuhoo! And here we go...

Nothing remarkable about the bag itself, I just picked this one up because it's roomy and the brushes can fit well inside without being deformed. Speaking of, it wasn't pictured here but I just packed the Real Techniques Duo Fiber Collection with me because it's a 3-piece-set that can multitask so I wouldn't have to bring all of the brushes. The bag is from Victoria's Secret from eons ago.

I figured your choice of base should depend on the temperature of the place you're headed to and in my case, it's slightly elevated so the weather will be a lot colder. I needed a moisturizing base with a slightly dewy finish because the oiliness will finally have to take the back seat when it's going to be 12 deg outside! Here I picked up Benefit The Porefessional, The Body Shop All In One BB Cream and Collection 2000 Lasting Performance Concealer. The rest of the face, Naked Flushed in Strip has got it covered for me - blush, bronzer and highlighter in one and that's me done!

Of course I'd go for a simple and as easy as the on-the-go eye makeup can get that I picked up a universal shadow which will match any lip color (more of this on my lips section below). A creamy eye shadow for the base and hint of color as well, an eyeliner for definition and mascara for the pop and prop of them lashes. That's Avon Eyeshadow Duet in Apricot Mist, LA Girl Liner in Cappuccino. Bourjois Twist Up The Volume Mascara. Insert brow-on-the-go here with the help of the ever reliable Etude House Eyebrow Drawing Pencil.

Basically my overpacking ability isn't limited to clothing, I overpack on lipstick too. But hey, they're just a little tube so an extra option wouldn't hurt and will always come in handy right? There's hardly a night time shenanigan included in our IT so I basically just decided on a bold berry lip on the first day and a bold matte lip on the second day. But to achieve the berriest of the berry, I have to layer two shades and that's the Avon Overnature in Cherry Berry and Kate Moss for Rimmel #107. And then, the bold matte lip came to life in the form of a liquid lipstick from Bourjois which is the Rouge Edition Velvet in Pink Pong. Cheating on this since I saw the cracked lips coming, what with the 12 deg temp, so I brought my Nivea Lip Balm with me for safety purposes.

On second thought, maybe the reason why I always put things like this aside is that I tend to focus more on the books and playlists more than my actual things - or makeup things for that matter. Excuses, excuses, excuses... Enough about me, let's be nosy together and tell me what's in yours!

RIP My Old Jeans.

Matty made me do it. How shameless but it's true. Even before style bloggers went overboard with the ripped knee trend over the season, good ole Matty of (duh) The 1975 has somehow owned this piece of trend as his that there's even a Twitter account named after his exposed left knee - shocking times. Anyway, his is probably Acne or designer something and he owns about ten or more of the same style. And so is the rest of the world may be but I don't, I have a couple of good old jeans and one afternoon I just decided on ripping the knees apart with a pair of scissors and finish off the edges with a sandpaper. Et voila!

This is basically my second half of the year style staple. For some reason I find the ripped detail charming, teasing and easy on the eye - with a little bit of flesh revealed just fo' kicks. The faded denim skinnies is from herBench and the black one is a stretchy skinny jeans from The SM Department Store which I got way back during uni years - that's a decade ago! And this is exactly how I like wearing them - with strappy sandals and platforms. Paired with the default white v-neck tee and a hat. It's autumn/winter time, a girl can wear a hat out, can she? Besides what's the point in buying a new pair, let alone an expensive one, when it's ripped anyway? My thoughts exactly.

The First Of The So-Called "Alphabet Creams".

As of blog published time, aside from the BB, CC, DD craze - there's already been a ZZ cream in the market too, so I think I may be a little late on the so-called alphabet themed creams since I've just landed on my first which is a BB Cream at that. I never really fully understand the differences in between but having been using one for daily use, I think it's time we sit down and get to the alphabet creams business.

They are conveniently called blemish balms, hence the acronym BB. Or at least that's what I believe they stand for. The main thing about BB creams and what set them apart from the standard bases is that they are both a makeup and skincare product in one - it's like their love child. That's exactly what The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream is about, its formulation is runny and slightly grayish in color with microbeads infused in it and a tolerable, faint smell. This is my current everyday face base that gives enough coverage to even out my complexion and to give me a slightly dewy, glowing finish. I have a very oily face so I find it impressive to last for at least 4 hours until I need to retouch or reblot. I tried to minimize the editing on the photo above so you can see how the color-adapting property performs in real life. I got the 03 shade, the darkest from the range in a rush when I could've been an 02 but I don't see how that is a factor really since it will adapt to your skin tone at once. I think one layer will be enough for girls with slightly dry skin but since I'm more of the oily kind of girl, I just had to add on another thin layer for safety measures.

Personally, I tend to go light on my base on a daily basis which is why a BB cream is always an option for my everyday face base and I'm in like with this so far. BB done, now onto the rest on my list, the CC, DD, ZZ - much excite!

Current Cravings Satisfied.

Usually my cravings are limited to food options and concert fixes but ever since I've fully embraced the world of beauty blogging, I now have these makeup musings too! For a certain palette, a particular lipstick or the newest beauty product found on my Instagram feed (come follow me if you haven't already @jyscmll) thrown into the mix.

Do you know how badly I want to own this lipstick from the Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick by Bourjois? So bad that even if the Bourjois team kindly sent me a piece but somehow got lost in transition, I still made an effort to get my paws on one - that's how bad. A for the effort and I got a little help on the side and I have no regrets - this is love at first stain! The shade is in Pink Pong and the formulation is nothing like I've encountered before. Plus the packaging is just so posh - a cubed glass tube in hot pink, are you kidding me! Now this UNE Sun Minerals Matt Bronzer is literally a heaven sent from the beauty gods and goddesses, if I do say so myself. I have a few bronzer in my current stash but there is no matte one yet that I like. That's the reason why I was ever so slightly upset about the Naked Flushed palette I got because it came with a shimmery bronzer, so was the one I got from LOL Cosmetics and I'm really on the lookout for a matte. But what do you know, now I wouldn't have to search further. This is a gorgeous shade of warm flush and feels feathery at first swatch - I can't wait to get my contour on!

Until a new lipstick lust or a blush babble happens, I'm staying put with a rather satisfied smile on my face whilst on the lookout for the ones who'll make it to the next cut of cravings - which I hope isn't anytime soon for the sake of my savings account.

Why I Chopped 8 Inches Off My Hair.

The drill. Basically, you get a free haircut in exchange of your hair in all of its 8 inch glory while making children with cancer happy - one new wig at a time. Winning! For someone like me who's decided on getting rid of it all in the first place, the chop wasn't really that much of a challenge, it's more of an opportunity. Showing up for the event however was since I haven't fully recovered yet but I didn't want to bother myself some more by missing out so I just rolled with the punches as I go.

The cause. New wigs for children with the Big C will be made out of the 8 inches of hair chopped off you. That's the Matrix 8 Inch Cut For Cancer Challenge in a nutshell which is a movement initialized by Matrix Salon, an American salon brand who's been around for about 30 years now in order to raise awareness and change lives of children with cancer. Together with David's Salon and Kythe Foundation, the event wherein more than 400 brave men and women got involved took place in SM The Block last October 25.

The process. Two words: Organized queuing. It made the difference. I signed up online, received a confirmation thru SMS, booked my preferred time slot, showed up and got chopped. A ziplock with your name will be handed over to you upon registration and the waiting time isn't even that long, I was 9th for my batch and I was assisted to a hairstylist in no time - beats the fastest salon time I can recall.

The chop. I picked out Love from the 8 stylish haircut ideas representing what you'll be able to give out to the children with cancer when you take the challenge. Alongside with Joy, Bravery, Hope, Strength, Confidence, Chance and Willpower which I personally think is just the cutest detail of personal touch into an already awesome concept.

The aftermath. Now this is the best part. You might think since it's for free and it's for a good cause, the chop will be just like that - a chop. But it's not! The hairstylist assigned to me personally groomed, styled and even texturized my haircut to perfection! No compromise at all. And I think that's why this movement is such a genuine success in more ways than one.

To find out more, you can visit the Matrix Salon Facebook Page and get involved as well. If you're looking into making a difference both in your life and in others, this may just be the opportunity you have long been waiting for. I know it has been mine and I have you to thank for that, Matrix Philippines! Now, can somebody pass me the dry, texturizing spray please...

I hardly match my nails with the season which is very obvious in my last nails post about white nails in almost autumn but I thought it's time I make up for it by actually picking out an appropriate shade for the season for once. There's something so earthly and warm about autumn. And though we clearly do not have an autumn season out here, my uncle from Canada has started popping autumn hues all over Facebook through his feed and they just look so gorgeous! So needless to say, I had to whip out OPI's Uh-Oh Roll Down The Window, my most autumn-toned polish to graze my tips for the week. I know, horrible name. I don't even know what was OPI thinking when they came up with it. But enough with that and onto the shade.... I wanted to get the warmest possible shade so I went in for three coats. But just like with any other OPI formulation, you can get a decent color payoff and opaqueness with already just two. The shade for me is like the last stages of green before transitioning into brown and fall right off the stem? Like a slow transition from autumn to fall. It actually looks best when thrown in together with other autumn tones and details like red, coppery eyes and and bold berry lips. Ahhhh, such warmth...

The Fictional Favourites.

I am an emotional reader. Which is something you will definitely find out for yourself by the end of this post. I never had the courage to do updated book reviews of the ones I read and loved because I feel like my emotions always get the better of me and my judgments will be biased. Just thought the earlier I put it out there, the easier for you to grasp the idea of how I ended up with my list of fictional faves. And why there is a list in the first place...

Table For Two by Marla Miniano.
If you know me in real life, there's a huge chance I've told you about the lives and the words of Lucas and Mandy as if they're real and I know them personally. I'm sure you're familiar with the films Love Actually and Valentine's Day wherein there's a bunch of equally interesting characters whose lives will intertwine at one point or another, this is the same for the characters in this Marla Miniano story. You would never guess how many stories a table for two at a coffee shop sandwiched between a Korean grocery and an appliance service center can hold. Or how the same table for two is the same place where love will find you.

I Heart London (The Series) by Lindsey Kelk.
This is a life and love story about Angela and Alex. A blogger turned writer and a rockstar. I loved how you can easily relate to being an Angela and with the vast amount of rockstars the industry has to offer these days, go on and pick your Alex poison. Of course I'd pick out I Heart London from the rest because well, it's London - my dream city! The adventures and misadventures of good ol' Angela never fails to crack me up, add a little Alex on the side and I'm a goner. Lindsey is very relateable. She writes about handbags and make up and music and boys - a British girl after our own hearts.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell.
Need I say more? I've always been a fangirl first, everything else just comes after that on my resume. The story's about a girl named Cath who holds on to her fandom obsession like her life depended on it until reality, also known as a guy called Levi, came to her rescue. So yes, just like Cath, being a fan is my life and I'm really good at it, too. I loved Attachments too wherein a stalkerish guy can't seem to veer away from his affinity to a girl. If you're usually skeptical about these things - fangirling and stalking, try giving Rainbow a chance. She's served them with just the right amount of reality and feelings to balance it all out and make it relateable and acceptable enough for you and I.

Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler & Maira Kalman.
I don't think I have read anything of the same approach or maybe I've just not been doing enough reading but this is a fave because it is something else. For starters, it comes with catchy illustrations and easy humor. It's an open letter to a guy named Ed from the ex-girlfriend Minnie who's spent the whole time explaining to him why they broke up in this illustrated novel. If you're one of the highly sensitive and extremely sentimental folks then you may just find a best friend in Min.

This Season's Shoes By Default.

 photo shoesbydefault01.jpg

I cannot even remember the last time I opted and wanted to wear heels for my whereabouts and seeing as my new step one will eventually require me to ditch the heels for good, I made sure my next essential purchase of the coming season would be something that isn't going to make me think twice of well, wearing them out and about. And what with the current normcore trend going on, this cutout 90's inspired sandals from Primadonna tickled my fancy at once during a random trip to the store.

Comfortable and in monochrome, I'm easily sold. Although I have to say, I particularly love the cutout details - both on the surface and the heels. It's not likely for the temperature in the country to rocket into the boots territory anytime soon so the illusion of having a boot cut open heel is a good compromise - looks and feels like a pair of boots but it's not. I've been wearing them with everything but pairing them with my fave boyfriend jeans from Zara and a black cami top is my go-to ensemble these days. They look pretty on the feet and pretty much a statement on their own. It makes me feel like I am of the cool kids, if you know what I mean. And did I mention how incredibly comfortable they are? Well, there. I said it!

October 22, 2014

I eventually and naturally caved in... Since I really loved the formula and the color transfer of the Avon Ultra Matte Lipstick Collection, I had to get another two. In all fairness to my non-existent logic, I do not have any of the same shade in my collection so far. I've posted about Merlot and Coral here so the two new additions are the Fuchsia (rightmost) and Mandarin (second to the left). Looking at them from afar all lined up makes me happy already.... Houston, we may have a problem.

Anyway, the Fuchsia is what I would like to call My Felicity Smoak Pink. You ever watch Arrow the TV Series? There's a girl in there who wears glasses and bold lips from the MIT Class of 2009. This is her kind of pink lips - bold but not off putting, with just the right hint of subtlety to it. And then you have the Mandarin. Which reminds me of a more sophisticated lip color from NARS. This is a red orange shade which is something I've never tried before. I've done a Katherine Jenkins trial make up look and I needed her signature bold, orangey lip when I realized I didn't have one lying around. This one fits the bill. It's what summer and spring dreams are made of. And a statement lip on its own.

If you're too afraid to get into the bold lip territory just yet and you're looking for something to road test the feel of it before splurging on the top guns such as MAC, NARS and the likes then you may want to start off your collection with Avon's Matte Lipstick. They look more expensive than they really are and they feel just as luxurious on the lips upon application. It's not drying and dragging on the lips at all, it's not going to bleed on you so the application won't be such a pain but it transfers at once so you may have to retouch every 3 hours or so. Best to set it with powder too, just for precaution purposes but the color payoff? There's your money right there, honey.

The Pencil. This is the best option if you have zero to none brows to work with. Pencil them in, girl. From the arch to the outline and up to filling them in. You don't have to worry about them being overdrawn, you can always blend it out to perfection using a spoolie or even an angled brush. The San-San Eyeliner Pencil in 03 is a good one if you're on the lookout for a budget friendly one to start with. Waxy in consistency, pigmented and easy to maneuver all over, plus it comes with a sharpener.

The Mechanical Pens. Which is by now, you know, is my personal favorite. I have slightly thick brows so I just need a little help in filling them in and defining them. Using mechanical pens are the easiest and most effective way for me at the moment. The Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Pen is already a given but these days I've been reaching out for the Maybelline Master Brow. It has the tiniest nib to get the precise replica of your eyebrow hair and get the shape of your brows almost effortlessly.

The Powder. This is for a more natural finish and if you have more time in your hands. The In2It Eyebrow Kit is a known favorite. It will also last you for years since you just need the littlest amount to build up the color slowly. This comes in three shades so you can have the liberty to choose which one to use for defining, arching and filling them in. There's also one from Essence, the one I've used for yonks but it's currently out of stock in the market.

The Gel. This is for the airbrush finish look and for those who are blessed in the brow department. You don't need much help with the filling in but you need to keep the brows in place and maybe a tad bit of definition and fullness into them? Then the Jazzy Cosmetics Eye Brow Gel in 01 is your guy. An eyebrow gel or mascara is the easiest way to get away with it. It's best to choose a shade slightly lighter than your natural brow color just avoid the stark finish of an overly drawn brow. You can even go with a clear brow mascara if you're really after that au naturale look.
