TDUG: Clashing Plains & Prints

Splash blazer / Zara mesh sleeveless top / Thrifted peplum skirt / Heatwave shoes / H&M clutch

There was an interesting topic over Monster Radio RX 93.1 a couple of weeks back. And yes, I have become that office person who enjoys radio more than any playlist to keep them awake and interactive even when faced with a laptop and Excel most of the day! They have this segment called BS which stands for Battle of the Sexes wherein they weigh the situation given as to who does it better, the girls or the boys. Last time, I happened to catch a Monster BS discussion about peacocking. I'm sorry, what? I had to Google it, don't judge me. Hahaha! According to Urban Dictionary, peacocking means dressing for attention. Just like how peacocks use their feathers to get a mate. And then I instantly thought of so many scenarios inside my head when I am guilty of *ulk* peacocking. I bet you have your own fair share too! Anyway, they ended up with a conclusion that boys often practice peacocking more as compared to girls. Because really, if girls would want any kind of attention, they wouldn't get dressed at all, they'd just be naked at all times. Betsey Johnson's words though, not mine.

Now this isn't me dressing for attention, this is me dressing up for myself. HA! I wanted to look appropriate since it'll be my first time to meet my boss, I wanted to dress the part. I've always wanted to try the drape-your-blazer-on-your-shoulders look as it has been a thing around the fashion blogs for a while now but I never had the chance until I came up with this look. The silk blazer is from Splash and it almost always make me feel like Michael Jackson, haha!

Clashing plains and prints has always been one of my favorite things to do with my clothes and accessories. I decided to clash my snake skin peplum skirt with my printed clutch from H&M and then kept a black on black top ensemble to balance out the prints. Wearing a peplum skirt is one good way to hide your love handles, ladies - as apparent in these photos. Love handles be gone in an instant! The trick is to wear them with confidence, like they always say, wear what you love and love what you wear. If others don't like it, that's their problem, not yours. Agreed?

I've been meaning to blog as much as I can but work's been pretty hectic these days. However, I still have my A Puckerfull of Shine Giveaway happening for at least 6 days before I get to pick a winner, so you might wanna check that out if you haven't! I shared the link, just click on... 2 easy steps and you're in!

TDUG: Perfect Partnership with Plains & Prints

H&M striped bodysuit / Plains & Prints trousers / H&M wedges & scarf / Mango bag

Let me start by saying this is not a sponsored post. (Then let us all have a moment since I have long wanted to drop those lines but I never did till now! HAHA!) Anyway... This may not be a sponsored one but it is however a homage to my girl, @annecurtissmith for being the newest brand ambassador of Plains & Prints!

Spot my 4 year old trousers, one of the oldest pairs I have, and it's from good ole brand! I have always avoided wearing them though since I personally felt like it doesn't flatter me at all. Until I found all the right pieces to put together and create a look that will suit my body type the most, at least by my standards. Since I'm already wearing a loose fitting pair of pants, I wanted to create an illusion of shape by pairing it with a slightly fitting top. I chose this striped bodysuit and it's a given it will surely hug me tight. I get pretty conscious whenever I wear body-hugging-clothes so I had to add something that will distract people from looking at my front area so I did add a busy-looking-scarf. Stripes and prints, doesn't get any busier than that ei? The rightest choice of shoes would be wedges or a pair of stilettos to help you maximize the effect of the look, or else you'd look like a walking human floor mop. This time, I opted for my colorful wedges from H&M with just the right height and would add some color to a rather monochrome look. I am never without a bag, let alone a big bag. This one's from Mango I got on sale from one of the Emirates' season sales! It can fit everything I need for a day inside!

And lastly, let me leave you with this.

The Annebisyosa meets the Joysilusyonada.

Our perfect partnership with Plains & Prints.

Bits and Bobs and a Lottle

I've missed my blog.

I know I'm all about how one should not be defined by his/her job, but sometimes your body and mind just aren't cut for it. Sometimes you're just too tired to function, too tired to complain. Actually, complaining is not even an option for me, why would I even think of complaining when this is what I want... for now. It's just really the exhaustion that will take its toll on you eventually.

And whilst tirelessly working on an excel file yesterday, I was randomly reminded of one of my favorite quotes from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. It was a long one but this part hit me the most - I hope you live a life you're proud of and if you find out that you're not, I hope you find the courage to start all over again. I guess I found the courage then, have I? I guess I was braver than I ever gave myself credit for. I guess unless you proceed with reckless abandonment, you will never know.

I'm excited for July! New things happening here on the blog. I can finally afford to update you guys on a daily basis about beauty bits and whatnots! Come back and check out my What Would Joys Say feature by then! There can also be a looming concert experience, something I never thought possible but since the fangirl gods are ever on my favor, it'll be rude not to try and see them live! It may also be the reason behind ticking off one item from my non-existent Bucket List as I'll be going solo! I'm quite excited actually. Like I can be standing there alone in the midst of the crowd and still be the happiest fangirl. Must be the bucket list state of mind, eh. Plus, I'll be needing liquid courage, I hope it's available out there. Or maybe not necessary anymore because I just found out Up Dharma Down will be opening the show for them! AAAAHHHH! I can never thank the universe enough! I'll probably get high from UDD already I won't be needing any liquid courage anymore. So watch out for it under The Girl Is She. I still owe you my The Script 2.0 experience, the moment had passed me by but that's what memories are for, when the moment passed you by, you can always randomly access them thru memories. Aw, I'm such forever fangirl drama queen. The new season for collegiate and professional basketball leagues are just around the corner! I cannot even begin to say how I miss watching the PBA! Okay, maybe not exactly the PBA but the players. Right, not even many of them but *cough Christopher Ryan cough*. It's just been too long and I really hope Petron gets to stay in the conference longer this time! Yep, my boie is the sixfooterish scruffie who makes them beautiful bulletpasses and killer crossovers. Any guesses? *hint hint* UAAP is history, like I need to experience even just one UST game LIVE, even if I don't know more than half of the team already, it's just something I have to do after not being able to for 3 years! We've ot the first assignment done, took down the Archers in a classic DLSUST OT game during the opening. One for UST!

I've been updating The Dress Up Girl though. I think it's the most updated category these days because I really find it more inspiring to dress up when the temperature's down a bit. Because like I said, I am a cardigan/sweater person and the appropriate season has finally arrived! Here's another sneak peek of yet another outfit post up this weekend!

You're definitely not imagining things. There was one day it was too cold, I managed to survive the whole day in a wool sweater. Not convinced? Watch this space.

It's almost the weekeeeeeeeend! I can't believe how time's been flying like cray! And to all of you out there celebrating, happy 4th of July to my future NYC neighbour and my favourite FilAm boie everrr. *hint hint again*

TDUG: I Bleed Black Gold

MNG crochet cover up & black muscle tee | Black leggings at random | F21 pearl necklace

Unsure of how this will look once published as I'm blogging using a tablet for the first time! I've been feeling a bit lousy to use a proper desktop/laptop the past days because a monitor's all I've been staring at for 8 hours a day at work, a girl can only take too much a day! It's far more convenient to laze around the couch and then the bed eventually when using a tablet, and I'm currently lying down, semi-tucked in my fluffy comforter as we speak.

Having an almost non-existent dress code at work, it gets pretty tough trying to decide whether an outfit's too casual for a non-Friday or it's too formal for regular weekday. So I try to play around with textures and accessories. This time around, I picked up this gold crocheted Mango cover up to take the spotlight of an all black ensemble and complimented it with the classics: pearl necklace from Forever21 and red lips. I love the royal vibe of black and gold combination that's why I kept everything else minimal. And nothing says classic more than pearls and red lipstick. I am so sure Marilyn Monroe's with me on this, ha! To complete the look, you can either dress it up to the nines by wearing black pumps or dress it down by wearing black ballet flats. I opted for the ballet flats because walking is a very vital part of my everyday work life and walking in heels along the busy streets of the metro isn't just my thing anymore, hahaha!

What do you think? Do you have a favourite combination to mix and match when it comes to clothes?

PS. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos as I am just using a tablet these days. It will all get better soon, promise! // J

Like, Heart and Follow

The Girl and The (Dream) City, 2o13.

I recently got an e-mail about GFC closing down, so I panicked a bit. Well, as if it makes any difference since I do not have much of followers out there anyways, hahaha. But joining in the bandwagon and shamelessly plugging myself out here because it feels appropriate. I promise if you stick around for a bit longer, things out here will only get better! Can I get a yooha? Ha!

Shameless pluggin' in 3...

1. Like my Facebook Page
2. Follow me on Twitter.
3. Follow me on Instagram/Webstagram. (JYSCMLL).
4. Follow me on Bloglovin'.
5. On a more personal note, you can always drop me an e-mail at joyscamille.esmalde(at)gmail(dot)com.

I know I can be the most reluctant blogger ever, it took me a while and a whole lot of confidence to even call myself as one, but if I don't take myself seriously, who else will... Well, maybe not that serious till but you get my drift. Like I always say, if you like what you see (and if you love me hahaha) then it will really mean so much to me if you all stick around. So far I've got it covered for you, I mentioned 5 ways above on how to. I love what I do, and I love doing things that I love with the people that I love too, so it makes sense right? Oh well, I blab. Seriously, thank you for sticking around with The Girl and The City! I'm planning on some massive changes in the coming months and I'd love for you to be on it with me. Also, link me up with yours on the comment box below if you have a space in the interwebz like me, or if you just want to say hi. Meanwhile, here's mine: Holler to everyone out there, we can all be alone together here, remember? Sending virtual hugs and kisses to one and all!

Much love,

TDUG: You Fit Me Better

Zara Man sweater | Splash skater skirt | Keds sneakers | Casio watch | Tomato bracelets

Gone were the rainy days for now but for the past week, we have had rain showers so the temperature and humidity eased up a bit and I was able to afford wearing sweaters! *happy dance* One of the adjustments I had to go through, and the toughest I must say, is getting back to tropical dressing again. I have always been fascinated with sweaters, blazers, jackets and cardigans - wrong continenticity forever.

This is what I wore on casual Friday at work. This oversized sweater is actually my brother's. Just to give you an idea how oversized it is, even on him, it's still so big and he's around 5'10. But I like how slouchy it looks on me. And since it is baggy as it is already, I thought of putting my hair in a top bun to casually put it together. I paired it with my skater skirt and sparkly sneaks to create a cheerleader vibe of some sort. To slightly perk up my dark themed look, I decided to throw an arm party of colours! These are mixed bracelets from Tomato which are on sale! Don't you love how it instantly perks up the whole look? I do! If it were up to me, I'd dress up everyday looking like this. So effortless, comfortable and so practical.

How do you dress up for your casual Fridays at work? Are you a fan of oversized sweaters?
